As I briefly explained the morning of the first class when we went around to introduce ourselves I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. My family has always wanted to move to California. When I graduated from James Madison High School I sent several applications to engineering technical schools in California. I was shortly then accepted into San Diego State University for Mechanical engineering. After I paid my dues such as the $400 intent to enroll fee my acceptance was rescinded from the university. My family and I made a calculated decision for me to move to a small town in the middle of the Mojave Desert where my father was living for the previous year. I attended a Community College named Cerro Coso from July until December of 2018 completing 20 credits with a 3.65 GPA (4.0 Major GPA).
My whole life I have always been the hands on “fixer-upper” in the house thinking of new ways to either fix or improve the house. My earliest memories as a child were taking apart different item that were given to me. In school I always remembered taking apart mechanical pencils and pens to analyze the way they worked and to know the process of how they were built. My parents saw a lot of potential in me from a very young age so in turn they were persistent in pushing me to get a very high education in the STEM fields. They consistently pushed me to better myself whether it be in my studies or in my thinking. I owe all that I know and all of my success and achievements to them.
Mechanical Engineering is a field that intrigues me because I have a very technical imagination. During my junior and senior year of high school my intended undergraduate major was Aerospace Engineering. After intensive research I learned that the aerospace industry is a very niche field compared to other engineering fields. I learned that although pay is very good, work is not extremely stable. I then decided to complete my undergraduate degree as a Mechanical Engineer and continue into my Masters as an Aerospace engineer. This will also give me a great chance to explore other fields such as electrical and software engineering before I decide what my career path will be. Mechanical Engineering is a good option for this due to the broad nature of the major.
When I graduate (as soon as spring 2022) I will make my decision to either continue with higher education such as a master’s degree or I will go into the work force. I have always been an entrepreneur at heart and that why I love engineering. I have always wanted to create and produce a product that could be useful to the general public. Although my decision for what I want to study for my masters is a couple of years in the future it is very important to start thinking about it right now. At the moment if I do want a higher education degree past my bachelors I will most likely do a master’s of science in Aerospace engineering. Another route that I have been thinking about would be an MBA. This intrigues me because with the combination of an engineering bachelors and a business masters I will be able to start a business or take a very high role in an already existing business.
My short term goals are to keep a very high overall GPA, make sure to keep time to focus on myself such as time to work out and prepare food so I can eat much healthier and to expand my knowledge horizons in my English writing. My long term goals are to maintain a very high GPA and to graduate with my engineering degree by Spring 2022.
